One of my favourite walks through the “Küsnachter Tobel”
and Itschnach bypassing some large villas with an interesting architecture and a spectacular view of the Alps.
Küsnachter Tobel (literally: Küsnacht gorge) is a small river canyon respective gorge on the southwestern slope of the Pfannenstiel mountain in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland.
- Distance: 6.3 km
- Duration: 60 - 75 minutes
- Ascent: 161 m
- Descent: 170 m
- Steps: around 7000
- Low to Medium Fitness Level should be alright
How to get there from Zurich
- Take Bus 912 from Zuerich-Bellevue to Itschnach-Rebweg (around a 19 minutes trip).
- Online Schedule. Bus will leave all 30 or 15 minutes.
The Route on Google Maps
The walk will bypass the following attractions
The myth-enshrouded dragon cave.
In April 2014, a rock fall of a 250 tons stone took place. The six-meter-high Nagelfluh-Brocken came to a halt near the Dorfbach practically on the footpath. Nobody got hurt.
My favourite “big” falls in the Tobel, are always a fantastic scenery, be it in the summer …
… or winter …
We will leave the forest and head over to the scenery part with a nice view of the alps, following a small side river up to the border of Zumikon.
View of the Alps
In the last quarter of the round trip you will get a gorgeous view of the Swiss Alps (if the weather condition permits), with the Zurich See lake in front.
